Part 1: Creating a Comprehensive Community Assessment Plan
Assessment, as one component of the Strategic Prevention Framework, is critical to effective Coalition work. It involves the collection of data to accurately determine local conditions and prioritize the prevention needs that can be successfully addressed with the resources available within a community. More specifically, assessment consists of three main elements: identifying and
understanding the problem, determining the resources necessary to address the issue along with the availability of those resources; assessing the readiness of the community to tackle the identified need(s). This training will provide a foundational overview of assessment and provide participants with the tools necessary to develop meaningful and targeted community assessment plans.
Learning Objectives
Participants will leave the training with the following:
1. Be able to define what constitutes a full community assessment.
2. Understand how community assessment fits into prevention programming.
3. Learn where to find data for your community.
4. Be able to create a bulleted outline of a community assessment for your community.
