Organizational Planning and Grant Writing
Organizational Planning and Development: 9 AM – 12 PM
This workshop provides recommendations and tips for developing an organization’s overall structure. The roles of leadership, staff, committees, and volunteers will be addressed, and the process for creating a simple strategic plan to strengthen an organization’s effectiveness by establishing goals and action plans will be highlighted. Participants will receive
templates in Microsoft Word and Excel formats to help develop and customize tools specific to their Coalition or organization.
Learning Objectives
Participants will leave the training with the following:

Structuring the roles of an organization’s leadership (Executive Board, Steering Committee), program directors, staff, committees, work groups, and volunteers

Creating position descriptions for committees and work groups

Using a simple strategic plan to guide an organization, create goals, and implement operations
Preparing to Write Grants: 1 PM – 4 PM
This workshop will provide essential information for administrators, program directors, staff, volunteers, coalition and board members to gain a general understanding of the many elements required for successful grant writing. Equal attention is given to the needs and interests of your organization/coalition and grant makers. Participants will receive templates in Microsoft Word and Excel formats to facilitate the development of grant proposals.

Approaching and developing relationships with grantors prior to applying

Planning programs and budgets before writing grants

Preparing information and materials typically required in grant applications
Presenter:
Mr. Paul Mastrodonato - Nonprofit Works
Paul has spent the last 30 years working for and with nonprofit organizations of all sizes, including eight years as the executive director of a workforce development agency for lower-income and unemployed men and women.
Through that experience, he recognized the many and varied services that nonprofit organizations need but don’t always have the resources to undertake. As a result, in 1999, Paul established Nonprofit Works, a New York-based consulting firm that specializes in training nonprofits and municipalities in fund development, strategic planning, board training, and communications. He regularly trains organizations and professional associations on related topics and is known for a presentation style that is practical, interactive, relaxed, and fun.
Paul has served as Vice President of Professional Development for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and as Chairperson of AFP’s National Philanthropy Day. He currently serves on the boards and committees of several nonprofit organizations. He holds a master’s degree in public administration focusing on organizational management from the State University of New York at Brockport.
